Ohio deer hunting runs on its own rulebook. For generations the gun season was shotgun-and-slug only, and the woodlots and cut corn from Williams County to the Hocking Hills were hunted with rifled 12-gauges. The Division of Wildlife now also allows rifles chambered for straight-walled cartridges, which is why .350 Legend, .450 Bushmaster and .45-70 sell here the way .308 sells out west. The rest of the year looks like the rest of the Midwest: spring turkey in the hill counties of the southeast, ducks and geese along the Lake Erie marshes and the big reservoirs, coyotes and groundhogs on farm ground, and a lot of steel and paper shot at club ranges on weeknights. Since June 2022 an adult who may lawfully own a handgun can carry it concealed without a license, and plenty of Ohioans still get the concealed handgun license from their sheriff for travel. State law here is short. There is no permit to purchase, no registration, no waiting period, no magazine limit, and cities cannot add their own firearm rules on top (ORC 9.68). What you do need is a background check at a licensed dealer, and that is how every gun on this site is sold: order online, name the FFL dealer where you want to collect it, and finish Form 4473 and the check at their counter.
